This privacy policy explains how I collect, use, and protect your personal information when you visit lukebarfield.com (the "site") or sign up to receive anything from me.
Who is responsible for your data
For the purposes of UK data protection law, the data controller is ARC Alignment Ltd, a limited company registered in England and Wales (company no. 17307640), trading as lukebarfield.com. Registered office: Ground Floor Southway House, 29 Southway, Colchester, Essex, CO2 7BA.
If you have any questions about this policy or your personal data, you can reach me at [email protected].
What information I collect
I only collect what I need:
Information you give me through forms. When you download a resource, join my email list, or send a message through the contact page, I collect your first name (where asked), your email address, and — for contact messages — the subject and content of your message.
Email engagement information. When I send you an email, my email platform records whether it was delivered, opened, and whether you clicked any links. I use this to understand what's useful and to keep my list healthy.
Technical information collected automatically. Like most websites, the site records limited technical data such as your IP address, browser type, and how you move through the pages. This is collected through cookies and similar technologies (see "Cookies" below).
I do not collect special category data, and I don't ask for more than the above.
How I use your information
I use personal data to:
send you the resource or download you requested;
send you occasional emails about my writing, the book, and related ideas — only where you've signed up or asked to hear from me;
reply to enquiries you send through the contact page;
operate, secure, and improve the site.
The legal bases I rely on
Under UK GDPR, I rely on the following legal bases:
Consent — for sending you marketing or newsletter emails. You give this when you submit a form, and you can withdraw it at any time by unsubscribing.
Legitimate interests — for responding to your enquiries, keeping basic records, and operating and securing the site. I balance these interests against your rights.
Marketing emails and how to opt out.
Marketing emails and how to opt out
If you sign up for a resource or my email list, or send me a message through the contact form, you'll be added to my contact list and may receive occasional emails from me. Every email includes an unsubscribe link, and you can opt out at any time. You can also email me at [email protected] and I'll remove you.
Who I share your information with
I don't sell your personal data, and I don't share it for anyone else's marketing.
I use Business Hub as the platform that hosts the site and manages my email, forms, and contact records. Business Hub processes your data on my behalf as a data processor, under its own terms and a data processing agreement.
Your data may be stored or processed on servers outside the United Kingdom, including in the United States. Where that happens, appropriate safeguards are in place (such as the UK International Data Transfer Addendum or Standard Contractual Clauses) to protect your information to UK standards.
I may also disclose information if required to do so by law.
Cookies
The site uses cookies and similar technologies. These are small files placed on your device that help the site function and help me understand how the site is used. The cookies used here are essential or functional cookies set by the site platform to make the site work and keep it secure.
You can control or delete cookies through your browser settings. Blocking some cookies may affect how the site works.
How long I keep your data
If you're on my email list, I keep your data until you unsubscribe or ask me to delete it. I may also remove contacts who have been inactive for an extended period.
If you contact me with an enquiry, I keep your message for as long as needed to deal with it and for a reasonable period afterwards.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law, you have the right to:
access the personal data I hold about you;
ask me to correct inaccurate data;
ask me to delete your data;
ask me to restrict or object to how I use it;
request a copy of your data in a portable format;
withdraw consent at any time, where I rely on consent.
To exercise any of these, email me at [email protected]. I'll respond within the time limits set by law (normally one month).
Complaints
If you're unhappy with how I've handled your data, please contact me first so I can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the UK's data protection regulator, at ico.org.uk.
Children
The site and my emails are intended for adults. I don't knowingly collect data from children.
Changes to this policy
I may update this policy from time to time. The "last updated" date at the top shows when it was last changed. Significant changes will be reflected here.

Links to other sites
The site links to third-party sites, including online retailers where my book is sold. I don't control those sites and I'm not responsible for their content, products, or privacy practices. Any purchase you make through a retailer is governed by that retailer's own terms and policies.
No guarantees
The site and its resources are provided "as is". While I aim to keep everything accurate and available, I don't guarantee that the site will always be available, error-free, or that the resources will produce any particular result.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, I won't be liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of, or inability to use, the site or its resources. Nothing in these terms limits liability where it would be unlawful to do so.
